lime street verses renshaw street? Mam! I'm 'Ere!
While American honorary Scouser David Gest will be appearing as the monster in Nightmare on Lime Street at Liverpool's Royal Court this Christmas, it appears many of the theatre's normal repertory team won't be.
Because five of the regular festive cast members have announced today that they are striking out on their own.....and setting up what might be considered, eek, a rival show!
Andrew Schofield, Alan Stocks, Stephen Fletcher, Rachel Rae and Paul Duckworth will be joined by fellow Royal Court regular Eithne Browne, plus Helen Carter and Keddy Sutton in festive offering Mam! I'm 'Ere!
The show, just up the road at the Dome (in Grand Central in Renshaw Street), is billed as a 'Christmas disco musical' and is the brainchild of Fletcher's Life in Theatre Productions company.
Imagine a topsy-turvy take on Mamma Mia! but set in a rundown UK caravan park and featuring three possible mums for Rachel Rae's bride-to-be rather than dads?
It runs for five weeks over December and January, and is another indication (on top of the competing Cinderellas, and an entry from new kid on the festive block the Echo Arena) that the battle for the Christmas theatre market is going to be fierce in Liverpool this season of goodwill.
