RIP Geoffrey Hughes
I was very sad to hear about the death of Geoffrey Hughes at the weekend from the cruel disease that is cancer.
The Wallasey-born son of a docker was of course best known for playing Eddie Yeats in Corrie, as well as the wonderful Onslow in Keeping Up Appearances opposite fellow Wirralian Patricia Routledge.
He also, of course, voiced the Paul McCartney in the Yellow Submarine animated film.
But the time I recall meeting him when he was rehearsing for the Liverpool Nativity back in December 2007.
He was playing a singing Angel Gabriel (as a CCTV operator in black bomber jacket complete with silver wings) in the live outdoor production and we were over at rehearsals and a photo op at the Mersey Ferry terminal at Woodside.
I remember a genuinely friendly and down-to-earth man who was particuarly keen to chat about cameras with the ECHO photographer, and who was very proud of Liverpool's moment in the international spotlight as European Capital of Culture - later being one of the 'precious cargo' who stepped out of a giant container at the People's Opening in Lime Street.
