July 2011 Archives

The Neptune Theatre in Hanover Street has been officially 'relaunched' today - but don't expect to see anything on stage there for a while.
Because the city council still hasn't found anyone to run the much-loved theatrical landmark.

Fancy a little slice of Liverpool theatre history? Well now you can own a seat from the Everyman.
The benches and seats in the current auditorium are being auctioned off before the Hope Street theatre is taken down and rebuilt in a £28m redevelopment.

Harry Potter press day, and I'm clutching a cocktail and standing next to Emma Watson, surreptitiously trying to gauge just how slim and elfin she really is. Which is very.
Down the road meanwhile there are several thousand very soggy Harry Potter fans staking out Trafalgar Square in the rain in the hope of catching a glimpse of Harry (on his way from New York), Ron (somewhere across the bar from me) and Hermione (a foot away).
It's at moments like these that I realise how lucky I am and that I should never take my job for granted.

Did you make a pilgrimage to Hope Street at any point on Saturday? If you did, you weren't alone.
I was amazed when I got to the Everyman at about 1.45pm to find people starting to gather outside the doors of the theatre, keen to get in and help celebrate/commiserate (delete as applicable - or maybe BOTH were really applicable in the circumstances) the end of an era and the start of a new one.
