jonathan pryce and the caretaker going international
I hear the Everyman theatre's acclaimed production of The Caretaker is heading Down Under.
We already knew that the Pinter play, starring Jonathan Pryce and directed by Christopher Morahan, was likely to end up in New York.
But apparently before that it is going to be staged in Adelaide and possibly other venues in Australia.
I learned this when I caught up with Jonathan Pryce after the Lipa graduation ceremony at the Philharmonic Hall last Friday.
He was being made a Lipa Companion and took the opportunity to hit out at government funding cuts to the art and culture sector, particularly the axing of the UK Film Council.
Anyway, it was at the reception afterwards that he told me about the plans to take The Caretaker to the Antipodes, before a visit to Broadway in 2012.
This is obviously fantastic news on the back of other Everyman shows like Ghost Stories and Canary, which have already - like The Caretaker - had successful London runs.
And it's a great final hurrah for the theatre before it is razed and rebuilt in the New Year.
