west everton primary pupils to perform in an In Harmony concert at the Royal Festival Hall
Exciting news for the children of a West Everton primary who are set to perform at the Royal Festival Hall today.
More than 100 youngsters from Faith Primary School are due to take part in two In Harmony concerts which will be streamed live on the internet at lunchtime and teatime.
The pupils have been working with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra on the project, and they left on a bus at six o'clock this morning to travel to London to take part in the event alongside performers from In Harmony pilot programmes in Lambeth and Norwich.
Around 100 parents were also travelling to London to watch the concerts and join a VIP reception attended by guests in including In Harmony chairman, the internationally acclaimed cellist, Julian Lloyd Webber, Culture Minister Ed Vaizey and Schools' Minister Nick Gibb.
Jane Corbett, Labour councillor for Everton ward, was also due to attend the event and will make a short presentation at the VIP reception about the impact of In Harmony Liverpool in the West Everton community.
The project, inspired by the successful Venezuelan project, El Sistema, involves youngsters - and staff - from the school being given opportunities to take part in some form of musical activity almost every day.
It aims to increase confidence, self-esteem, discipline, teamwork and communication of the children involved.
