liverpool musicians heading to LA to recreate the Beatles' Abbey Road recording sessions

By Catherine Jones on Jul 15, 10 08:34 AM

Congratulations to the four Liverpool musicians - Marcus Cahill, Josh Ferrigan, Jimmy and Tony Coburn - who are off to Los Angeles to play the Beatles.
They lads make up almost half the cast in the recreation of the Abbet Road recording sessions at Paramount Studios this autumn.

The producers held auditions in Liverpool, London, New York and LA and told me they were blown away by the quality of what they saw here.....apparently the would-be Beatles in New York were all far too musical theatre for a start!
Marcus is the Cavern Club's regular John Lennon perforner, Jimmy and Tony are in the Blue Meanies and Josh, well Josh isn't in a Beatle-type group at all and was busking outside the Cavern when he was encouraged to come in and audition.
I met some of them on audition day, back in April, alongside producer Stig Edgren and the Beatles' sound engineer Geoff Emerick.
So last Saturday I headed back to the Cavern to catch up with Stig, the lads, Alex from Weston-super-Mare (but he's in Liverpool a lot he told me because his girlfriend lives here) who's playing one of the Johns, and Mark from Stockport (whose girlfriend went to Lipa - it's like a Liverpool six degrees of separation!) who is the sole Ringo.
They were also joined by Jeff Foskett, Brian Wilson's musical director and who has also worked with Macca, who wanted to see what they could do musically.
I got to sit in the back room at the Cavern while the lads sat down and jammed together, and I tell you, it was quite a thrill. I had to fight the urge to sing-a-long a lot of the time!
Jeff also seemed pretty impressed which I think they should be pleased about given his musical pedigree.
I'll be following the progress of the four from Liverpool as they prepare for their big break in California.
