henry winkler checks in with the liverpool empire

By Catherine Jones on Jul 4, 10 04:11 PM

I hear the lovely Henry Winkler has been on the phone to his friends at the Empire theatre to see how they're getting on.
"The Fonz" is currently on a book tour in the UK with his kids' series Hank Zipzer.

Alas the tour of schools and book shops doesn't include a date in Liverpool although he was signing copies down the road in Manchester last week.
And I understand he took the opportunity to give the Lime Street theatre a bell and say "hi".
It's a measure of the man who, when he was playing Captain Hook in panto last Christmas, would turn up at rehearsals with boxes of Krispy Kreme donuts, and gave every member of the technical team a bottle of wine with a personal message written on the label.
I remember when I visited him in his dressingroom the first thing he did was to search around for a little gift to present to me - I still have the small santa-decorated chocolate egg at home and warm memories of the man who ended half his sentences with the exclamation "holy mackerel".
No pressure Pammie, but now we've been Winklered we have high expectations from our panto stars!
