liverpool hope university's angel field
I went to the opening of Liverpool Hope University's Angel Field last night.
After spending a week in wet and windy (and cold!) France last week while Liverpool basked in the sunshine...typical...it was lovely to spend Midsummer's Evening outside in a beautiful garden.
The Angel Field (named after the former farm that stood there) is right in the centre of Hope's "Cultural Campus" at Everton and a couple of hundred people sat on chairs, benches and on the grass to listen to members of the RLPO and Hope staff and students play Mozart in the sunny early evening.
We then moved indoors for the remainder of the concert which involved not one but eight Steinway pianos (including two grands) to mark Hope being an "all Steinway" school.
At two points, including a piece by Liverpool composer Neil Campbell who was sitting in the row behind, there were six upright Steinways being played at the same time. Quite a sound.
I hope the students take good care of the garden because it is currently immaculate and sparkling new.
