picasso: peace and freedom at tate liverpool

By Catherine Jones on May 19, 10 03:24 PM

There's been plenty of fanfare for Picasso: Peace and Freedom which opens at the Tate on Friday.
You'll have to wait until then to read my full review, but I did pop along this morning for a look at the exhibition and an overview by co-curators Christoph Grunenberg and Lynda Morris.

I say "pop" but you need at least a morning or an afternoon to do the show justice.
In fact, I have said this before but I think the Tate should instigate a system where you can get your hand stamped and then you can come back later the same day for a second view if you want to.
Obviously the mechanics would have to be worked out because with a timed ticket system AND people returning it could become a bunfight, but I am sure there is a way to do it.
Incidently, Christoph Grunenberg told me about the arrival of The Charnel House, possibly the most famous of the works on display, which has been loaned by the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
"It came in the biggest crate I've ever seen," he said. "We were very careful with it!
"It's also been reframed for this exhibition."
So there you go!
You can check out The Charnel House and dozens of other works when the show opens from Friday.
And if you're quick you can still take advantage of the Echo's two-for-one ticket offer. When you call the Tate to book before close of play tomorrow quote "Liverpool Echo offer" and you will get two entry tickets for just £10. bargain!
