jodie prenger on spamalot and alternative careers
Have you seen the pictures in today's Echo of Jodie Prenger all glammed up in a medieval velvet frock for her role as Lady of the Lake in Spamalot?
I caught up with Jodie on the phone a couple of weeks ago to talk about the show, which comes to the Empire in August, and her very busy diary - it seems to have been non stop since she won the part of Nancy in Oliver!
There's Loose Women, deputising for our own Mr Paul O'Grady on Radio 2, searching for a Toto for The Wizard of Oz, and preparing for the Monty Python musical this summer.
But what, I asked her, would she have done if things hadn't panned out in showbiz? If she hadn't been chosen by public vote to get beaten about by Bill Sykes on stage every night?!
She tells me: "I did another show called The Biggest Loser (in 2006 where she lost eight stone and dropped from a size 22 to a size 10. talk about willpower!) and lost all the weight, and I actually started running weekends to help others lose weight.
"So I probably would still be doing that because that was such a big thing in my life and I know how tough it is and I'd just like to be there to say it's OK to be a normal size, I'm a size 14 now, and it's OK.
"I'd probably still be doing that and I also used to sing a lot in the gay venues - I just loved it! I could sing all the musicals tunes and they loved it, and I'd probably be doing that."
