mike mccartney in conversation at liverpool cathedral

By Catherine Jones on Apr 26, 10 09:44 AM

I went to a very interesting evening's chat with Mike McCartney at Liverpool Cathedral on Friday night.
Mike talked about his photography, the surrealism of The Scaffold, and yes, a bit about "our kid" (Sir Paul McCartney to you and me) as well.
The "in conversation with" was interspersed by some of Mike's favourite music including some terrific Django Reinhardt played by Gary Potter, and Come Together in a unique version by the guitar-playing Katona Twins.

Some of his best anecdotes were about life in the 1960s, accompanied by images he'd taken including Graham Nash asleep on a train from Scotland.
Apparently the Scaffold and several members of the Hollies stopped off in Newcastle to try the famous brown ale, and all piled into a one-person recording booth at Newcastle Station to make a record together!
There were also pictures of Mike's hand-me-down Ford Classic from big brother Paul, and George Harrison's British racing green Jag parked in Calderstones Park.
A lovely image of Uncle Albert and Auntie Mil asleep on the sofa in the front room at Forthlin Road, and snaps taken from the top of the old Inny building in the 1950s - sans Metropolitan Cathedral but with a church spire - were also fascinating.
The evening was organised by Gemma Aldcroft and Karen Podesta of Club Geek Chic, and it was great to see John Gorman there in the front row....prompting Mike when he had forgotten something.

I fear you may be setting a precedent of performers reviewing themselves Mr McCartney - but I'm glad you enjoyed the evening! 'twas a little on the chilly side though and I noticed you kept your coat resolutely on too....
