simon callow and daniel kitson among the everyman and playhouse new season
Leading British thesp Simon Callow is on his way to the Playhouse this summer.
The 60-year-old actor, who has previously scored worldwide success with his Mystery of Charles Dickens, has now teamed up with Shakespeare biographer Jonathan Bate to create The Man From Stratford: Being Shakespeare.
In the one-man show Callow tracks down the real William Shakespeare and brings to life the man and his unforgettable characters.
He'll be here from June 16-18.
The actor's is one of a number of new shows announced by the E&P team over sandwiches and cake at the Everyman yesterday (muggins here ended up first at the Playhouse of course and wondered where everyone was!).
Comedian Daniel Kitson is on his way back with his poignant show 66A Church Road, while director Christopher Monahan, who was responsible for the splendid version of The Caretaker currently drawing them in in London (and maybe in New York at some point too?) is also on his way back.
He's going to direct a new version of Robert Tressell's The Ragged Trousered Philanthropists at the Everyman in June.
Then there's Paula Wilcox joining Kevin Trainor, Sean Gallagher, Hugh Ross and the hugely talented Jodie Mcnee in Jonathan Harvey's new play Canary next month, and the return of Everyword in May.
Add in a drama about notorious Northern Ireland prison Long Kesh, modern dance from Wayne McGregor and a claustrophobic piece where the Everyman becomes a submarine, and there's a truly varied programme on offer between now and the summer.
Oh, and I understand that Ghost Stories might well be heading for the West End too.....
