michael wynne wins an olivier for best new comedy
Congratuations to playwright Michael Wynne who scooped a gong at the prestigious Olivier theatre awards in London last night.
The 37-year-old won Best New Comedy for his play The Priory at the Royal Court London.
And he made sure he gave a "big shout out" to his family in Birkenhead during his acceptance speech.
The playwright first came to prominence with his play The Knocky, a family saga set on the Noctorum council estate in Birkenhead, and which won sensational reviews at London's Royal Court Upstairs a decade-and-a-half ago.
His other work includes The Boy Who Left Home, The People Are Friendly, Dirty Wonderland and the 2004 film My Summer of Love starring Emily Blunt and Paddy Considine.
The Priory takes a microscope to modern dilemmas about life, love and retro board games.
Sister Helen Robinson said: "Michael's thrilled to bits, and we're all really pleased for him."
