icons in transformation at liverpool cathedral
Liverpool Cathedral has been turned into a giant art gallery with the installation of more than 140 artworks by Russian Ludmila Pawlowska.
Icons in Transformation opens today and runs until March 18 and is really quite fascinating.
I popped in to the official launch yesterday evening. I would say if you're planning on spending much time there though you may want to make sure you're dressed warmly!
The works were previously on show at Hereford cathedral among others, and they're well worth a view - and if you're put off by the thought of icons and religious art, don't be.
Although the exhibition has the title Icons, it's more - as it was said at the opening - of a contemporary art show.
I loved the large scale canvasses which hang from the bridge in the cathedral, and many of the smaller works which dot the well and the main nave are so tactile you almost feel compelled to defy the "please do not touch" signs.
Not that I'm advocating that of course!
