out on the ice with Kyran Bracken at the ECHO arena
I spent the morning at the Echo arena showing why I write and the Holiday on Ice skaters...skate.
Following my turn on the rink with Kyran Bracken and the patient, kind cast of the Spirit show, I have a new-found admiration for Dr Hilary Jones and Todd Carty.
Kyran confided: "I can't tell you how nervous I am."
Having strapped on a pair of skates for the first time in well over 30 years, I think I can actually!
Anyway, he explained it was only the third time he'd skated with his Holiday on Ice partner - and the show opens tonight.....
I saw them rehearsing and they looked pretty damn good to me.
You can read all about my nervous exploits on the ice in tomorrow's Echo. Suffice to say I didn't cover myself in glory. But then I didn't fall over either, not even when Kyran was cruel to be kind and detached himself from me so I had to skate without any help.
It is, in fact, a heart-warming tale of triumph (I wasn't as rubbish as I thought I was) over adversity (I am still QUITE rubbish!).
And I'm still in one piece to tell that tale.
