aubrey williams exhibition at the walker art gallery
Has anyone caught up with the Aubrey Williams exhibition at the Walker Art Gallery yet?
If not then I'd really recommend that you do - it's not huge but the works are full of lusciously vibrant colours and interesting subjects.
Guyana-born Williams loved the works of Shostakovich for example, and the sound of the Rusian composer's symphonies coming out of his studio alerted those around him that he was painting.
Walker Art Gallery visitors can see one of his large scale abstracts based on the music and listen to Shostakovich's 14th through headphones at the same time.
He was also influenced by Pollock and Gorky.
I particuarly liked the Maya Matrix II painting which was like an exotic reef fish, and Time and the Elements which is almost creationist in its feel.
The show runs until April 11 and costs absolutely nothing, so go and take a peek and brighten up a grey winter's day
