john bishop, celebrity mastermind and a sudden birth
Liverpool comedian John Bishop's star really is in the ascent.
In fact the 43-year-old (happy birthday for today John!) barely seems to be off the telly recently - and there's another Bishop offering on the way.
He revealed in his show at the Empire last night (see my review in today's Echo - link at the bottom) that he's just recorded an edition of Celebrity Mastermind.
I'd already heard this on the grapevine, and wondered if he'd mention it. Suffice to say, I don't think the reguar contestants have anything to worry about.
Bishop, raising money for children with cleft palates, first said he'd like to do as his specialist subject "holidays I've been on". They said no. The he said he'd like to answer questions on Liverpool Football Club, but it had been done before.
Finally, out of desperation, he suggested the Irish Potato Famine. As he says "I'm not that keen on potatoes and I'm not that mad on the Irish!"
Apparently he ended up doing OK on the famine, but started making answers up in the the general knowledge round, and was disappointed John Humphries didn't have much of a sense of humour.
I can't wait to see the final version now and find out exactly what happened.
Meanwhile there was a woman in the Empire audience last night who had laughed so hard at Bishop's fridge story when he appeared on the Michael McIntyre Comedy Roadshow on TV earlier in the year that her waters had broken!!
Apparently she and her other half did Sky Plus the show though so they could finish watching the sketch when they got home from hospital.
There's a dedicated fan for you....
