ian mcmillian orchestra coming to cornerstone arts festival and the bluecoat

By Catherine Jones on Nov 18, 09 11:24 AM

The Bard of Barnsley ian McMillan is on his way to Liverpool not once but twice in the next week - to the Bluecoat on Saturday to celebrate Malcolm Lowry (his favourite author) and to the Cornerstone Arts Festival on November 27.

And he tells me (as you can read in today's Echo) how he just loves playing Liverpool.
I chatted to him on the phone the other day and he reminisced: "I remember last time I was there I was at the poetry cafe at the Bluecoat and I walked out of Lime Street station - it was a Thursday afternoon when it's always like a fantastic celebration, like the Wild West
"So I was just wandering down the street and I through blimey, this is so good.
"There were people coming out of the pubs dancing like they do, and there was a bloke dressed as a cowboy and I thought blimey, this is so good, and so that's why I love coming to Liverpool."
Wild west eh?
Ian's musical partner in crime is Luke Carver Goss - not to be confused with former Bros brother Luke Goss, although apparently he often is, particularly when the pair go into schools to spread the musical word.
"Women of a certain age turn up with Bros albums for him to sign," Ian laughed. "Then a bloke with a piano accordion turns up. They always assume that I'm Ian McKellen as well - Ian McKellen and Lue Goss on tour! Well, why not?"
