November 2009 Archives

Liverpool comedian John Bishop's star really is in the ascent.
In fact the 43-year-old (happy birthday for today John!) barely seems to be off the telly recently - and there's another Bishop offering on the way.

Henry Winkler - how lovely is he?
The Fonz (as we can't help but call him in this office) has taken to life in Liverpool like a duck to water, shopping for groceries in Sainsbury and chatting to all and sundry in the street.

They've been talking about it for months and now Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra bosses have confirmed the Phil IS going to Shanghai.
I understand it will be in October next year and will probably be tied in with at least one concert in Beijing too.

It's not out on general release until Boxing Day but the Nowhere Boy cast returned to Liverpool yesterday for a charity premiere of the John Lennon-inspired film.
And despite fearing I'd be all Lennoned out, I managed to watch the movie not once but twice in the same day.

The Bard of Barnsley ian McMillan is on his way to Liverpool not once but twice in the next week - to the Bluecoat on Saturday to celebrate Malcolm Lowry (his favourite author) and to the Cornerstone Arts Festival on November 27.

DadaFest opens in Liverpool

By Catherine Jones on Nov 17, 09 11:00 AM

The UK's leading deaf and disabled arts festival - DaDaFest - opens today and is promising a cornucopia of events across the city.
The annual event includes an awards ceremony at the new Hilton Hotel next month, and, encouragingly, an awards and showcase evening for young disabled artists too.

Henry Winkler is on his way to Liverpool in the next week or two to start rehearsals for Peter Pan alongside Les Dennis and Natasha Hamilton.
And he called me from home in LA last week to explain why he's so excited to get back to Liverpool for the first time in 50 years.

Artists could win themselves prize money of £25,000 in the John Moores Contemporary Painting Prize 2010.
The prestigious Liverpool competition is now open and is available to all UK-based artists working with paint.

Ladies and gentlemen of the hard working Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Choir - an apology.
In my review of Andrea Bocelli in Saturday's Echo I said that he was accompanied by the Crouch End Festival Chorus - the choir which was named and pictured in the programme.
It's since been brought to my attention that it wasn't the Londoners who were on stage at the Echo arena with Bocelli, but our own RLPC!

kylie minogue and me

By Catherine Jones on Nov 6, 09 05:12 PM

My colleague Jade Wright asks the question of Calvin Harris in today's Echo - so what do you do when you're in a room with Kylie?
Well, if you're me you don't notice!
