terry wogan gives way to warrington's chris evans
Well that was a bit of a shock when I turned on the TV news last night and discovered Sir Terry Wogan was hanging up his microphone.
El Tel, Togmeister, is handing over his crown to Warrington's own Chris Evans.
It's a hard act to follow for the Drive Time DJ - what Radio 2 listeners (and yes, I'm one of them!) like first thing in the morning is a gentle introduction to the day, with a drop of wry humour and badinage and a sliver of childish giggling.
True, Chris Evans has calmed down since the manic days of The Big Breafast, TFI Friday and the Radio 1 breakfast show he hosted in the mid-90s (until he was let go for repeatedly failing to turn up for work).
And of course you need someone with a strong personality to take over from a living radio legend like Wogan, so we'll see whether 'waking up' with Evans can live up to the expectations.
