our day out and the case of the hungry snake

By Catherine Jones on Sep 25, 09 02:17 PM

Willy Russell's new version of Our Day Out seems to be doing roaring trade at the Royal Court Liverpool .
But I hear that some of the cast members need more supervision than others. And I don't mean the teenagers.

I went to see the show twice last week and spotted that when the zoo and petting corner animals were brought on to stage half way through the evening, the snake looked considerably bigger on the second occasion than it had the first time I spied it (it took two lads to carry it....gingerly).
It was not only bigger, but possibly hungrier too because apparently the youngsters were told by the animal handlers that the reptile was perfectly docile - but that they'd appreciate it if they kept it away from the other smaller members of the animal cast. Like the gerbils for example.
Incidently, while I'm mentioning Our Day Out, I hear Alan Bleasdale, who was at the press night, was overheard to utter: "I never thought I'd hear myself saying this but I think I'm going to see this again."
So there you go! Make like Alan and get yourself down there
