hanif kureishi and the case of the cilla black accent
Hanif Kureishi's stage adaptation of his book The Black Album comes to the Playhouse on a UK tour from the National Theatre in October.
I gave him a bell yesterday to talk about the play, writing, life et al. You can read the result of our chat in the Echo's arts pages this Friday.
Towards the end of our conversation (me sitting chatting at my desk, him reclining - rather tired - on his sofa at home after an early start that day on his latest screenplay) he did confide that he was slightly disappointed because he'd been expecting me to have a "Cilla Black accent".
I was sorry to disappoint him, but despite sharing the same hair colour, I'm not able to channel a whole lorra lorra Cilla.
Maybe next time.
