The Tate put on its 20th birthday bash at the weekend and I was like a cakeaholic in a cake shop.
No change there then.
It didn't help that I arrived at the gallery just before the Lord Mayor cut the official birthday cake designed by artist Lisa Milroy and made by the talented staff of Cake Shop Liverpool.

Alas for my waistline, right next door people were being given the chance to decorate their own fairycakes.
So I settled down with the Tate's press officer Stacey and we had a chat about possible future story ideas as we liberally spread icing and hundreds and thousands around the place.
If only all "meetings" were that much fun.
I admit I did feel a little queasy after all that sponge though.
Earlier I caught the tail end of the Alexei Sayle "giggle tour" of the building. I had a brief word with Alexei while he had a coffee afterwards - and I kept it brief because there was a long line of people patiently queuing to have a chat with him.

He explained how he'd studied at art college in the 1970s before going into comedy, but that actually the experience as a student had put him OFF art not turned him on to it, which is a shame.
Now with 30 years of clear blue water between the two, he can appreciate it again.
Downstairs there was plenty of activity going on as youngsters made their own dens and the adults partied into the night in a sold out Northern Soul event.
They know how to put on a party at the Tate, so roll on the next one - for the arrival of Klimt later in May.
