I had to laugh - but it was meant in a good way.
In fact I was still chortling as Vasily raised his baton and the orchestra was poised to start.
What caused my outburst?
Young Musician of the Year Mark Simpson.
It was more a laugh of surprise and then followed by appreciation really. As the teenager walked out on to the stage with Petrenko all I could see was a shock of peroxide blond hair.
Mark is currently living and studying in Berlin and it looks like he's starting to embrace the city's individuality too.
Watching him was great fun - Andy Warhol hair, Harry Hill shirt collar, grey school trousers and weaving, circular a way of playing which reminds me of a snake charmer.
But by God he's good!
He was playing Mozart's bubbling clarinet concerto, penned only months before the composer died.
Simpson produces a sound so silky smooth and effortless it's a sheer joy to hear. And although he took it extremely slowly, his adagio almost moved me to tears.
