music guides

I think I may be becoming hooked on auditions.
Not doing them myself, but sitting in on them.
Maybe I need to start a branch of the AA - auditions anonymous?
After last week when we saw 92 hopefuls in our search for a cast member for Evita (then six of them back again for a second stint on Friday), yesterday I found myself back in the chair.

A Val Doonican-style leather wing back chair to be exact, placed incongruously as part of a relaxed circle in the Cavern Club's back room.
I was asked to join Dave and Paul from Cavern City Tours to audition people for a new music tour guiding course being set up by the Mersey Partnership.
It wasn't quite on the scale of last Monday's Magaldi fest, but it was very interesting all the same.
We gave people a minute to tell us a story - about music or whatever they wanted - and make an impression on us.
There were some good, very good, and not quite so good contenders, and some very interesting anecdotes and stories came out of it.
I must admit, I did also jot down a couple of lovely turns of phrase which caught my ear - watch out, I may be shamelessly recycling them in the Echo some time soon.
There are no auditions today.
I can feel the first twinges of withdrawal symptoms already.
