viennese frock

By Catherine Jones on Mar 30, 08 10:54 AM

Only two weeks until the Viennese Balls now and I don't know about you others, but I can't wait!
I'm not sure just how much dancing I'll be doing on the night though (and many thanks to Brian Nicholson on his kind words about my dance video clip!).
Not necessarily because I don't want to give it a go, but because I have chosen what I now realise is likely to be a totally inappropriate dress for the purpose.

As anyone who has read this blog before will know, I had a dream of wearing something Ginger Rogers would be envious of.
However, finding my ideal frock was easier said than done.
After approaching designers, trawling shops, and even calling on the Playhouse theatre for advice, a friend of mine suggested fishing around bridal shops for a glamorous (presumably for a bridesmaid) dress.
Frankly, for one who has never been a bridesmaid let alone a bride, the idea of stepping inside one of these places was quite daunting.
However, said friend is bridesmaid at a wedding at Peckforton Castle soon and was getting her dress from a bridal shop in Chester.
The long and the short of it is I plucked up courage, went in and fell in love with a full-length frock......in a size 14.
Well, I'm a size 10 so there's been some judicious taking in of said dress and last week I popped over to sort out the hem length (these things are made for giraffes I'm sure).
Only now I've realised if I'm not careful, the first step I take is likely to rip the back off the dress. Could be a bit draughty - let alone red-face making.
I think there may be a bit of practising at home because I do really, really want to dance.
Either that or I'll have to go back the next day in a shorter dress!
