richard herring girlie fight

Posted by Catherine Jones on February 26, 2008 8:27 AM |

Does anyone remember the fight comedian Richard Herring got into after his show in Liverpool last summer?
The police turned up and just laughed.
Well, Herring not only remembers it, he's put it in his latest show as I discovered at the weekend.

I was visiting an old university friend in Newcastle and we decided to go and see Herring perform his Oh **** I'm 40 show down the road at Durham (since we're fast approaching the landmark ourselves we thought we might empathise - however, I think you may need to be a bloke with quite specific 'issues' to nod at the comedian's musings!).
Anyway, quite a large segment of the first half was dedicated to retelling the story of that night in Liverpool last June, complete with the brandishing of the yellow T-shirt he was wearing on the night and which got ripped.
Even if he did get punched - one landed in a particularly painful area - Herring has proved that pain and despair is the meat on which comedians feed.
Plus the image of him defending the honour of some of Liverpool's young ladies in some kind of girlie slapping street brawl with a university lecturer is genuinely amusing - as the taxi driver who took him home that night said "that's the funniest fight I've ever seen".
