twelve days to go
Remember when the Capital of Culture countdown clock said 1,000 days to go?
Then there was a big hullabaloo made when we got to 500.
Well hold on to your seats because we're now a mere 12 days from the year we've been planning for for what seems like ever.
It's a bit like a reverse 12 days of Christmas and if I wasn't so busy trying to bring together coverage of the start of 2008 I'd have tried to pen a little ditty.
But luckily for you all I haven't!
I suppose it would have to finish something like "and Capital of Culture year" and involve things like "two great cathedrals", "three graceful graces", "four mop top Beatles".
Oh dear, we're half way to a song. I'll stop there.
I've now seen an outline of the programme for the 10 days running up to the opening weekend - see the New Year's Day Echo for more details, and of people want to get involved there's a definite opportunity to get in the party mood.
Of course that's the point.
Forget the politicians, forget the vanishing execs, forget the unfestive ding dongs.
Capital of Culture will work BECAUSE of the people.
2008 is about the people of Liverpool showing off the city and telling the world "this is us, aren't we great" while having a fantastic time themselves.
