from ringo to making a show

It's only Wednesday in Capital of Culture land but already the week feels a whole deal longer than that.....
Sunday saw the city looking beautiful on national TV as the Liverpool nativity was acted out on the streets.
On Monday we published my exclusive chat with Ringo Starr who is due in the city in a matter of days now.
With Capital of Culture less than two weeks away it should be a time of celebration and anticipation.
Instead it's the depressing wrangles at the top which continue to take the spotlight.
And we all know that spotlight should now be firmly on the city - and the people - of Liverpool.

Back to Ringo.
The former Beatle seems genuinely excited about coming back to the city to perform at the start of culture year.
But don't expect to see him on the same stage as the other surviving member of the Fab Four.
I did ask.
And I was left in no doubt that wasn't likely to happen.
Apparently Ringo is touring with his All Starr Band in the States in the summer which he says would preclude him from making an appearance with Paul McCartney at the Liverpool Sound concert on June 1.
Of course, there's nothing to stop Macca from popping up on January 11th or 12th, but I suppose it may be considered a bit rude to crash someone else's gig - I'm not entirely sure of the etiquette surrounding former bandmates!!
Ringo himself will be on top of St George's Hall on January 11th singing his new song Liverpool 8 and we'll no doubt be printing the lyrics in the Echo so everyone there has the chance to sing along.
The last line of the chorus is "Liverpool I left you, but I never let you down."
Surely that's what every one of us - without exception - in this city should think about in the last few days before Capital of Culture, and the eyes of the world, is upon us.

Ringo should not be welcome back in Liverpool anymore. Did anyone see him on Jonathan Ross last night? What a prat. He just used the city to promote his new album.Disgusting little man.
