christmas is a coming

You can tell Christmas is on its way.
I went to see my first - and possibly only - nativity last night when I reviewed the Flint Street version at the Playhouse.
We were treated to carol singers, mulled wine and mince pies in the bar before the shoe which was a very convivial way to start the evening.

Talking of convivial, I came to the theatre straight from enjoying the hospitality of the Royal Court which was having a small festive soiree and showing off its new catering service.
I think it's the first time I've been sent a list of the canapes to be served BEFORE I get to an event.
They all sounded delicious though (and were), particularly the venison wellingtons, mini yorkshire puddings filled with turkey, cranberry and bread sauce and the Christmas pudding ice cream tartlets.
Great until I stood on the scales this morning and discovered I was three pounds heavier than yesterday.
Stanley McHale and I mulled over the social etiquette of what to do with used cocktail sticks - and in fact I managed to stab myself with one I discovered in my handbag this morning - and later I sang Misty at the piano with Eithne Browne.
Well, I say sang, I la la-ed along and joined in the chorus because I didn't know all the words!
Eithne had just come from rehearsals for the Royal Court panto Cinderella where she's playing an Ugly Sister.
I may well be reviewing it later this month, so if cast member Pete Price is reading this, here's advance warning.
Soak me with water as you have on previous years and suffer the consequences young man!
