I've concluded it's a conspiracy.
Every time I go away something major happens on the culture front.
It's enough to make a capital of culture reporter weep.......
But not enough to mean I'll never take a holiday again.
I came back to work yesterday to discover that in the three days I was away, MTV had managed to make the announcement I'd been waiting for for months - and Jason Harborow had gone off sick again.
The MTV announcement is fantastic news for Liverpool and will give us unparalleled publicity on an international stage and among an age group the city needs to be courting - the next generation.
The ongoing Jason Harborow situation isn't such good news.
Is he coming back or isn't he?
"Sources" (don't you love them?!) close to the chief exec claim he is, but there are many people out there who think they'll never see Jase again, and - unsurprisingly in these situations -various rumours flying around about his absence.
Will Mr H prove them wrong?
Will he be in Liverpool to see the dawn of 2008?
He's now signed off for another three weeks so for now we'll just have to wait and see.
But if he doesn't come back on November 19, some very serious questions will have to be considered by a Culture Company 'headless' six weeks away from Capital of Culture.
