You wait for one major cultural event to happen in Liverpool - and then two come along at the same time.
While the Royal Variety Performance, with its stars like Bon Jovi and Kanye West, has been hogging the headlines, the Turner Prize waded in itself yesterday for a bit of front page action.
Organisers announced Dennis Hopper would present the £25,000 award at Tate Liverpool next Monday night.
Hopper is a 24-carat Hollywood legend and it's a real coup for the Tate to lure him to the Mersey on what could be a rather damp December evening.
And not only is he a cult acting legend (You only really have to say Easy Rider but you could name dozens more) but the Dodge City-born star is a bona fide art collector and artist to boot.
He's an internationally known photographer and painter, with retrospective exhibitions in 2001 at the Stedlejik Museum in Amsterdam, and The MAK in Vienna.
This year he's exhibited at The State Hermitage in St Petersburg and The Manege in Moscow, and he's currently working on an extensive film and art retrospective with the Cinematheque Francais in Paris set to open next October.
Maybe one day he'll put on his own show down at the Albert Dock gallery? It's worth a suggestion at least.
Anyway, life is all rather exciting in Liverpool at the moment - and long may it continue.
