hurrah for the RLPO
By all accounts the Phil's table was groaning with gongs at the Dorchester yesterday when the Gramophone Awards - the classical music 'Oscars' - were announced.
As revealed in the Echo, boy wonder Vasily Petrenko took the accolade for young artist of the year, while the Phil's foray into the weird and wonderful cyber world of Second Life also scooped it an award.
But in addition to that, Phil exec director Andrew Cornall also took home two awards for work he has done separately to the Liverpool orchestra.
It must have been a jolly group of musicians and execs who came away from lunch, although I hear there wasn't a whole lot of sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll excess and celebrating til the wee small hours.
Apparently it was simply a celebratory muffin and Kit Kat on the train home.
Hardly a classic rock 'rider'.
In fact, it got me thinking what the Phil musicians WOULD put on their dressing room request list......
Since they're going to be on the bill with the likes of Macca, Ringo, the Bunnymen, Wylie, Broudie and the like at the Echo Arena and Anfield next year, I think they need to start drawing up their (no doubt very polite) demands.
I imagine the bad boys in the brass section may have a few ideas for a start.
And I hear their conductor is partial to a glass or two of the Cains 2008 celebration ale.
Anyone with any ideas for the Phil, please let me know.
