Liverpool Shakespeare Festival organisers tell me they have solved the acoustics problem with Macbeth which meant I dubbed the production "Mac-deaf".
Sound engineers have now come to the aid of Lodestar a Liverpool theatre group which fell under the curse of Shakespeare’s "Scottish play".
It's currently being performed both inside and outside Liverpool Cathedral, and maybe the thesps thought a place of worship would negate the famed curse.
Actors believe that uttering the name “Macbeth” in a theatre can bring bad luck.
And that stretched to the cathedral where the production fell fouls of acoustic problems with performers’ voices horribly distorted by the echoes.
Now sound technicians have stepped in to set up a radio microphone system which Lodestar says has solved the problem completely.
Nina Borgner, of Lodestar, tells me: “We thought we’d escaped the dreaded curse, but we simply hadn't counted on the echo in the cathedral being so powerful, even with 300 people to soak up the sound.
“The radio microphones have completely eliminated the problem. Now we’ve seen off the curse, the sun has come out to celebrate, and a mini-heatwave is forecast for the rest of our run.”
