outspoken late at the tate

Posted by Catherine Jones on August 24, 2007 8:12 AM |

After the Sir Peter Blake/Tracey Emin double act, the Albert Dock art gallery hosts its next Late at Tate next week.
And Tate bosses are promising the event on August 30 will "take a closer look at Liverpool's creative legacy".

This month’s 6-9pm event is inspired by the exhibition Centre of the Creative Universe: Liverpool and the Avant-Garde, which is on display until September 9.
It's a fascinating, free exhibition so anyone who hasn't had a chance to get to see it so far should high tail it down there before it ends.
Next week's "Late" coincides with Liverpool's 800th birthday and will explore the way Liverpool has inspired poetry, painting, performance and passion in its people.
Entry to Late at Tate is free, and visitors can enjoy poetry readings, DJs in the foyer, themed talks, Liverpool-inspired film screenings and late opening of the shop and café.
For this event only, see key figures from the heyday of Eric’s nightclub reunited.
Looking to the future of Liverpool and its creative renaissance is legendary provocateur Bill Drummond, who will give a performative talk inspired by the legendary ‘poster’ he created especially for Centre of the Creative Universe.
If you haven't seen it, the poster, which is currently on display at the Tate, challenges the city to deliver a noteworthy Capital of Culture year in 2008.
In his varied career, Bill Drummond has performed in KLF and Big in Japan and has been the manager of Echo and the Bunnymen.
He's on at 6pm and tickets to hear him give what are likely to be outspoken viewscost £7. To book call Tate Liverpool on 0151-702 7400.
Throughout the evening, DJ Will Sergeant, of Echo and the Bunnymen fame, will be playing his own unique musical playlist in the foyer.
Oh, and a free Cains beer will be available to visitors on arrival.
If all that isn't enough, Michael Horovitz will return to Liverpool to give one of his,now legendary poetry readings entitled One Man Poetry Band.
It's free and will take place in the café from 6.30-7.30pm on the day.
There is more, but I'm exhausted just writing about it!
