winter popsicle
January is always a bit of a dull month so hurrah for the news of a new Winter Pops week.
And hurrah that there won't be a row over it being subsidised as both the ACC (kings dock arena to you and me) and CMP (organisers of the Summer Pops) have promised they won't need a council handout to make it work.
I assume this will go for the Summer Pops too from 2008 when they will find an annual home at the arena.
It's a great space, although I have to admit I've always had an affection for the 'big top'.
Apart from the time a couple of years ago when there was a huge electrical storm with forked lightning and then I feared for the techies up in the metal gantries let alone the rest of us huddling from the crashing thunder and flash flooding!
Anyway, come January we'll all be pleased to be in somewhere with a proper roof, heating and indoor toilets.
Now we just have to wait and see who they manage to sign up.
With the 'pops' starting the day after the Capital of Culture launch party, it is going to have to be a pretty spectacular line-up to make sure the year starts with the appropriate bang.
And just a suggestion for Chas and co at CMP - popular though they are at the summer event, we need someone a bit bigger than Australian Pink Floyd.
