I finally got to see the Liverpool 300 Son et Lumiere on Friday night.
I went to the 8.30pm showing, although because it was still too light the programme didn't actually start until closer to 9pm.
The show was eye catching and a lot of hard work had obviously gone into it. I think its contents were probably an eye-opener for some particularly my friend's mate whose opening words were 'is it Liverpool's 800th birthday?'
Oh dear.
One tiny quibble though - the voice over confidently told the gathered crowd that the world's first steam-powered passenger train service started between Liverpool and Manchester in 1826.
Funny, because the Rainhill trials, won by Stephenson's Rocket, weren't held until 1829.
The opening of the route - and death of William Huskisson beneath the Rocket's wheels - was of course actually in 1830.
But apart from that, it was an enjoyable evening out and drew some genuinely warm applause.
