love Liverpool
I've been away for a few days in the Baltics.
Myself, several stag parties and a gaggle of lads in Shamrock hats boarded the early morning flight to Riga on Saturday.
Oh yes, and the obligatory child who decided to throw up in the aisle by my seat....
In the past I've been to Tallinn so I knew pretty much what to expect and wasn't disappointed - cobbled streets, fantastic architecture, a touch of the old USSR still in the air, and some good reasonable food....as well as some damn fine Bloody Marys!
Anyway, I digress.
What I really wanted to talk about was coming home yesterday.
You may think that's a bit strange, but however much I enjoy a holiday I'm always happy to get home.
There were a lot of Latvians on our lunchtime flight, and as we came in over Liverpool Bay and down the Mersey you got a cracking view of the Three Graces and the Albert Dock, the cathedrals and the Radio City tower, Sefton Park and beyond.
I hoped they were impressed, because I found myself welling up with pride with the thought that that was where I lived.
OK, you may think I'm a bit lame and soppy admitting that.
And it is easy to knock the city - we are, after all, plagued with disastrous roadworks, deplorable litter and graffiti, pathetic little gun-toting posses etc etc.
But I've tallied up a few countries on my travels so far - 32 to be precise - and I say hand on heart, that (with the exception of New York) there is no where else I would want to call my home.
Our motto here is 'Love Liverpool, Love The Echo'.
I suppose we'd rather you did love both.
But if you really can't, don't forget to at least love Liverpool......
Anyway, here endeth the lame and soppy bit - back to business as usual.
