ghosts

GHOSTS, it appears, aren't spooky apparitions floating around old buildings at night.
It is the slang name for white Europeans.
It is also the title of a film which dramatises the story of several Chinese cocklepickers who died at Morecambe Bay in 2004.

funding? what funding.....

Culture chiefs plan to spend £50m on Capital of Culture celebrations over the next two years.
More than £26m is being earmarked for major events in 2008.
And the budget for Liverpool’s 800th birthday stands at over £22m.

bungee dancing

Bungee jumping has never held much fascination for me.
I was a big enough cissy last week in northern Norway when we went snow mobiling on a frozen fjord and everyone raced off ahead of me at speeds which would frighten Richard 'hamster' Hammond.
So the idea of hurtling off a bridge with a bit of elastic tied to my big toe and bouncing around like a hysterical rag doll is out of the question.

bye bye big top

I come back from a few days away and discover the city council has pulled the plug on the Summer Pops.
The row over subsidies had rumbled on for so long I suppose I thought we would end up with the usual status quo - and probably Francis Rossi into the bargain.
