February 2007 Archives
I'm THAT close to giving up on Liverpool's public transport network.
GHOSTS, it appears, aren't spooky apparitions floating around old buildings at night.
It is the slang name for white Europeans.
It is also the title of a film which dramatises the story of several Chinese cocklepickers who died at Morecambe Bay in 2004.
Culture chiefs plan to spend £50m on Capital of Culture celebrations over the next two years.
More than £26m is being earmarked for major events in 2008.
And the budget for Liverpool’s 800th birthday stands at over £22m.
Bungee jumping has never held much fascination for me.
I was a big enough cissy last week in northern Norway when we went snow mobiling on a frozen fjord and everyone raced off ahead of me at speeds which would frighten Richard 'hamster' Hammond.
So the idea of hurtling off a bridge with a bit of elastic tied to my big toe and bouncing around like a hysterical rag doll is out of the question.
I have been taken to task by reader Godfrey Wilmot for treading the same tired old road when it comes to art and artists.
I come back from a few days away and discover the city council has pulled the plug on the Summer Pops.
The row over subsidies had rumbled on for so long I suppose I thought we would end up with the usual status quo - and probably Francis Rossi into the bargain.
