January 2007 Archives
The bar has been set for glitzy parties with the launch of Liverpool's newest hotel.
London critics on a rare expedition out of the capital rubbed shoulders with the usual Scouserati suspects - and Chris Moyles - at the Malmaison on Friday night.
There were two arts launches on at the same time last night.
At the Echo offices in Old Hall Street, 100 'heads' of Liverpool were being unveiled by artist Anthony Brown.
Meanwhile across town, more than a dozen artists' work was on display through a new Liverpool Academy of Arts exhibition.
A lot of column inches have already been filled with concern and disgust over the current crew inhabiting the Celebrity Big Brother house.
What a bunch of idiots, bullies, cowards and morons they have turned out to be.
But while they are merrily bringing disrepute to Britain, one is also helping to heap shame on Britain's Capital of Culture.
JANUARY isn't normally party time - unless you run one of the world's most famous clubs that is.

So yesterday it was 'happy 50th birthday' to the Cavern Club with the biggest bash Mathew Street has seen in a long time.
800 candles were lit in St George's Hall last night to create an illuminated labyrinth with one candle for each year of Liverpool's life.
You can see the stunning result in the Liverpool papers today.
It's not often I hear myself saying this, but two weeks into 2007 and the culture chiefs down at Millennium House have made a sensible decision.
They have decided not to appoint a new Robyn Archer.
For now at least.....
Finally, after all these years, the Fab Four have been given an accolade by the Royal Mail.
Happy belated new year!
I was one of an estimated 5,000 people who turned out to see the postponed New Year's Eve fireworks last night.
