birthday arts

Posted by Catherine Jones on December 4, 2006 11:47 AM |

Plans are now progressing for Liverpool's 800th birthday.
But wither the artistic programme?

Originally we were told everything was due to be announced with a fanfare in July.
Then there was the Archer departure, and suddenly we were told the Culture Company had never intended to reveal any artistic events at that stage and they would be unveiled later in the year - possibly at the same time as John Belchem's book on Liverpool's 800 years was launched.
That never happened either.
Then the programme for 2008 was revealed in a simultaneous launch in Liverpool and London involving balloons and burlesque dancers.
And yet, still no news on 2007.
We're being told there won't be a grand announcment with bells and whistles.
But any kind of hint would do, particularly as 2007 is 27 days away....and counting.
