every picture tells a story...except mine!

I have officially taken part in the Liverpool Biennial.

It’s easy to just let culture happen to you - or to miss it all together - so this autumn I decided to grab the bull by the horns.
Or, in this case, the disposable camera by the hands.
The idea of the Picture It.... competition was to capture elements of the Biennial’s International artwork and turn them into inspirational photos.
I say the idea, because frankly the shots I got back at the Tate last night were about as inspired as a bowl of mashed potato.
Luckily for the organisers, there were a number of much more talented amateur photographers out there who worked wonders with the disposable.
Not least eight-year-old Emily Dore, one of four overall winners at the endearingly amateur awards ceremony.
Now around 140 of the many thousands of pictures taken are on show on the first floor of the Tate.
And, despite my best efforts otherwise, even I, yes, I - more glass of Bailey’s than David Bailey - have an image on the wall.
It doesn’t look entirely as I saw it when I peered through the viewfinder, but there it is, blown up in all its slightly surreal glory.
At the launch of the John Moores 24 exhibition in September, Tracy Emin said she planned to enter a painting in Capital of Culture year, whether she won or not.
I never thought I’d ever have anything in common with Tracy, but now I think maybe I do.
